Heat Lacrosse Summer 2013 Teams Information
Heat Lacrosse Travel Teams Information:
Heat lacrosse prides itself with providing the most comprehensive lacrosse program in West Michigan and beyond. The purpose of the Heat Travel teams is to have the players get instruction from the most established coaches in the area, year round, for a price that is reasonable. Heat Lacrosse from the inception (2008) was established to help lacrosse players in West Michigan become better, so that each spring they are able to help their schools/organizations perform at the highest possible level. Heat is an organization with the sole purpose to improve lacrosse, not make a living off of lacrosse. Along the way Heat players have found themselves as state champions, All American, all state, and collegiate players. Heat has established such a family atmosphere that many Heat players come back to help coach the travel teams they once participated on…to continue the tradition of giving back to lacrosse in West Michigan.
Coaching:
The Heat coaches consist of head coaches and top assistants at local high schools and colleges. The assistant coaches are current or former players that have played the game of lacrosse at the highest level. Each travel team will be coached by a minimum of 4 coaches (1 head coach listed on the staff page and 3 assistants listed on staff page). These coaches are always the same, as they do not travel from team to team, aside from helping when able.
Practice:
Practice in both the winter and summer is another of Heat’s many benefits. Each player on a Heat Travel Team will practice a minimum of 5 times between January and March (when the typical spring season begins). However, we encourage players to play multiple sports. By having a few practices prior to the start of the spring lacrosse season it allows players to enjoy the benefits of other activities and not get overwhelmed with only lacrosse. When the spring season concludes practice will be twice a week between June and July. Each team also participates in Parisi Speed training through MVP (this is not an extra cost/it is included in the fee), as well as practice at MVP Fieldhouse. These speed sessions coincide with practice location and time, so that it all takes place at one convenient location.
Communication:
We take a tremendous sense of pride in our communication ability as a program. Once you become a part of the Heat Family you will always be a part of the family. As a Heat member, knowing what is going on is of the utmost priority. We have a director of operations that organizes, uniforms, practices, hotels, and any other issue that may come up. So, you know what to expect well in advance of each event we are involved in. Additionally, each team has a team representative that communicates day-to-day information. This is an invaluable position with the instantaneous changes that may occur while attending an event.
Coaching Philosophy:
At Heat Lacrosse, the coaching staff proactively teaches lacrosse fundamentals, situational awareness, and team concepts. Typically, practices focus on individual skill acquisition and progressively build up through situational repetitions to live game action. Due to the fact each coach is also a head coach on their collegiate or high school teams (or top assistant), practices are run with fast paced drill work and organized in the same manner that they would for their respective teams in the spring. The Heat coaches communicate with each other throughout the summer and are always informed as to what each other are and should be focusing on during practice.
Take a look at our Coaching Staff.
The Heat Lacrosse staff is dedicated to making lacrosse in West Michigan better. The focus of Heat and their staff, is to help players grow as solid team players, develop a bond amongst players within West Michigan, and to enjoy the opportunity to play summer lacrosse. The success that the Heat Teams have achieved is a direct reflection of the characteristics previously mentioned. Heat truly promotes a family friendly atmosphere. When traveling Heat sends multiple teams to the same event, which allows for comradery amongst players and family. Heat also sends teams to age appropriate venues and events. When it comes to the recruiting process, Heat will help guide parents and players in the appropriate direction. We want the players to be at a school that is the best fit for them.
